How to Stop Windows Updates in Windows 7

Windows updates are the very vital in keeping the system updated with latest patches, service packs and security updates. They are very vital in avoiding vulnerabilities in the operating system that could lead to system being attacked by severe viruses or worms.They are available on XP, windows 7 and Vista.

We can disable them if we donot want to have them updating automatically or no option of updating as well.
Step 1: Open gpedit.msc in the search box or in the Run command


Step 2: It will open the the Group Policy Editor
Step 3: Expand User Configuration and Administrative Template and select System folder


Step 4: We will find Windows Automatic updates in the right window, double click on that
Step 5: It will have three options
  • Not configured
  • Enabled and
  • Disabled
Select Disabled or Not Configured to Enable Automatic updates on the system and Select the Enabled option to disable automatic updates.
